Fathers Day Sacrifices

Father's Day is one of the days dads like myself really enjoy and is something we really look forwards to.

You know, the day we get a lie in, then get breakfast brought up to us in bed and generally spend the day getting looked after by our kids and partners (if the kids are a little too young).

It's the day we get a new mug for our precious morning brew and is usually the day that we go out for tea or order a take away - Dad's choice of course.

So you can imagine how excited I was for my Father's Day this year...

Well to be honest I wasn't really looking forward to it at all because I was working - silly me told work I would work on the 19th without realising what day it was.

I could have probably got off work if we had something massive planned but, I'm a dad, and working on a Sunday would mean earning some extra money to support my family and even if that meant missing out on all of those Father's Day perks needs must sometimes.

And providing for my family is more important than anything...even if this year was extra special as it was my first having two children.

Last Father's Day I wrote a post about how close the bond is between me and my 10 year old son and how we were spending our last Father's Day together it being just us two.

The post was one I wrote in collaboration with Next and their Mini Me campaign and I have to say it's been one of my favourite posts to date as it was a mix of fashion and lifestyle, both things I love writing about and it also gave me chance to talk about my son loads, who I totally adore.

I wanted this post to be out a littler earlier than this but I've been so mega busy with work and then I damaged my shoulder playing rugby the day before Father's Day and I struggled to do one handed typing...let's be honest, I struggle with two handed typing as it is - I am the slowest typer in the world.

So, now I am a dad of two.

How has my bond with my son changed?
Well if anything it is even stronger than before, don't get me wrong, we have our little arguments at times but five minutes later one of us will apoligise and then we get on with what we are doing.

I am so proud of him with how he has become such a perfect big brother to eight month old Willow.
When he first met her in hospital he just burst into tears saying how beautiful he thought she was.
You could see the love in his eyes that first second and you could tell he was going to be her protector for life.
She was only a few hours old and he was over-seeing other visiting family members and telling them how to hold her properly - he even warned a few - you could tell at that very moment he had already grown into his big brother role.

Willow is eight months old now and has already got her own personality.
She's a little bit famous on Instagram already due to the hundreds of outfit pictures my wife posts of her - she definitely knows when that camera is pointing her way.

But unlike my son who was a total Daddy's boy when he was little, Willow is a Mummy's girl, but she does get super happy Dad gets home from work or when she "talks" to me on a video call.

One thing I have got over Mummy though - Willow's first word was "dadda" which was very heart melting when she first said it let me tell you.

But as I said above, I didn't get much of a Father's Day this year but a week earlier we made up for it and went on a little adventure to take some outfit photos for this years Next Mini Me Campaign which I was invited to take part in again.

But this year, the photos featured a beautiful little girl stealing all of the limelight...well Charlie and Willow take the attention away from their old Dad trying to pose and look good for the camera any day, they are both naturals.

We both chose outfits that we feel the most comfortable in - we are both very similar when it comes to picking clothes - we go for comfort first and both wear shorts at every opportunity.

With us being a really close family we decided to start our very own family Youtube channel called Baker Bunch.
We see it as a great way to record our adventures so that in a few years time we can look back at all of the fun stuff we got up to and we have a laugh filming, so why not.

We actually filmed the day we went and took these photos, so if you fancy seeing what goes on behind the scenes then watch the short vlog below and if you enjoy what you see please subscribe here and follow use on Twitter @BakerBunch04

I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed writing it.

  3. Okay I might have teared up a bit when you said that little man cried when he first met Willow! Those two are definitely going to be best buddies, and he's obviously looked out for her right from the start.
